The opening of my first store has been a dream of mine for some time. I have been making Handmade gifts since the age of 11. Over those years I have made for too many different items to list for this article but I have followed so many trends that I have seen them come and go and come back again !
I originally lived in the UK and received diplomas in floristry and soft furnishings. When I moved to the US in 2001 I found a country with abundant resources for an Artisan like me. I was able to develop a vastly larger range of gifts and use products not readily available in the UK.
Eventually my house became a stock room and every room had projects and finished products. My husband said to me one day “you either have to stop creating or open a store”. Within a week, a friend told me about a small unit in Pawling which was becoming available and before you knew it, I was signing a lease and moving in. On Jan 2nd, 2010 I opened the store.
I wanted the store to offer one-of-a-kind handmade gift items. Its not possible to produce everything, so I personally select a small number of products made by other local Artisans, who are not too far from Pawling. I wish to have as much as possible Made in America.
So my store sells a wide range of items from Jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings) using semi-precious stones and Swarovski crystals; Baby gifts like Diaper Cakes for the shower, changing mats, bibs, burping cloths, ribbon blankets, booties; a wide variety of colorful scarfs, beach wraps; Soy Candles and Tarts – all Made with American grown soy and American made glass containers; Cold-Pressed Soaps and handmade Lip Balm and much, much more.
In the short-time I have had the store, I have established a website, Facebook page and use Twitter and LinkedIn for networking.
I also am a Reiki Practitioner and work with a great group of women within Dynamic Intervention who also operate in the same building as my store.
I was so pleased to hear about Jamie setting up PWP and have already met so many great like-minded women.
I have only been open 11 weeks but business has far exceeded my expectations in this weak economy. The store is paying for itself, much to the relief of my husband (who also now has a house back) !!!
