Examiner Media

I am sure many of you know Nikki Gallagher and Jamie Opalenik, they work for our great local paper,The Putnam Examiner. Examiner Media is an independently-owned publishing company that runs three community newspapers in the region. Publisher Adam Stone started the company in 2007, working with dozens of friends and former colleagues in local journalism. The Examiner, covering central Westchester, was launched in the fall of 2007. In March of last year, The Putnam Examiner was born. About nine months later, in December of last year, the company started The Yorktown Examiner, which is now distributed across northern Westchester.
The substance behind Examiner Media’s motto, Small News Is Big News, can be seen in each week’s editions, as the paper’s team of writers chronicle the community news that local readers find so meaningful and important. Believing in the newspaper’s responsibility as a government watchdog, Examiner reporters can be found each week at municipal and school board meetings, monitoring for residents what their elected officials have on their agenda. But the papers editors and reporters also take pride in directing a spotlight on the lighter side of life: the local parade, a proud Eagle Scout, a new small business. Perhaps the coverage that draws the most attention, however, is the coverage of local sports. Award-winning Examiner sportswriters and photographers have a firm commitment to providing comprehensive coverage of the local sports scene.
“What we’ve found so encouraging since our launch is the strong ties to community people in the area still have,” Stone said. “And it’s exciting to be able to provide a platform to help strengthen those ties.”
Examiner Media’s newspapers, supported by advertising, are published and distributed every Tuesday across a wide and growing coverage area, and are available free of charge.
